1.

Light

Classes are designed from the latest scientific research into the effects of specific light frequencies on the body.

Scientific studies have been conducted to monitor the effects of light on the human body and mind. One of the most common colours which affect our lives is blue light. The advances in technology over the past 40 years has culminated in a influx of over exposure to blue light through technology such as laptops and smartphones. This prolonged exposure to blue light has been scientifically proven to suppress the production of melatonin and subsequently to interfere with our natural circadian rhythms. Suppression of melatonin at night can contribute to a wealth of emotional and physical problems; from insomnia, anxiety, s.A.D and even cancer.

We will address the imbalance in our lives by saturating ourselves in the colours we need to bring about positive change.

Each light yoga class is held in our beautiful yoga room bathed in a specific colour of light. You will be guided through the class through a set of sequences which correspond to the healing properties of that colour.

2.

Sound

As well as light therapy, sound therapy is a big part of each class. A specially composed soundtrack will accompany each session to correspond to the healing Properties of the colour. Join us for our special live soundbath sessions (check out notice board, social media etc for event details) which emulate the frequencies our brains emit in different states of consciousness. These sounds can promote a more calm, focused and relaxed state of mind and allow for a class without distraction whilst delivering a multi dimensional sound experience that guides the class into a fully immersive sensory state.
3.

Scent

We use a combination of essential oils to correspond with each class colour. These scents will be used in harmony with yoga poses to drive energy, aid breath work, release muscle tension and encourage relaxation.
4.

Heat

Some sessions will be in the heat using infrared heating panels and some will be room temperature – please check the online booking descriptions to choose a session suited to you. You either LOVE the sweat and challenge of the heat or you don’t -there are benefits to both just as there are drawbacks to both and it really is down to preference and what your body needs on a particular day.

Class descriptions

All classes are designed around the unique healing properties of the colour that participants will be bathed in.

Red

Red – our red classes are strong, powerful and dynamic class based on the energy giving properties of red light – not for beginners as a good knowledge of yoga is required.

Focusing on strength, flexibility and core, red will give you the power you need to challenge yourself whilst benefiting from increased circulation, a faster metabolism and improved mood and sleep.

About Red Light

Red light interacts with the body by penetrating the first 2mm of skin tissue, allowing it to be absorbed and increase energy generation on a cellular level.

This same mechanism is also responsible for many of the benefits of sunlight, which contains the red wavelengths as part of its spectrum. Some of these benefits are as follows:
Increases alertness
Promotes a healthy sleep cycle
Soothes inflamed muscular tissue
Reduces swelling and pain in joints
Increases metabolism and accelerates weight loss
Promotes youthful, healthy skin by balancing collagen production
Corrects hormonal imbalances in both men and women

Blue

A dynamic flowing class where breath is linked with movement and used to wake up the body and increase energy. Blue light is the mighty controller of our sleep cycles and can help with boosting productivity and alleviating mood swings. These classes are great if you find it hard to wake up in the mornings or suffer from afternoon energy dips.

Suitable for all levels and options will be given to those who wish to challenge themselves.

About Blue Light

One of the most common colours which affect our daily routines is blue light. We have special receptors in our eyes which react directly to blue light, telling the brain that it’s daytime and we need to be awake. When exposed at the correct time, blue light can help elevate your mood and boost awareness, but chronic exposure to blue light at night can lower the production of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep, and disrupt your circadian rhythm.

The advances in technology over the past 40 years has culminated in a influx of over exposure to blue light through laptops, smartphones, tv’s and tablets. This prolonged exposure to blue light has been scientifically proven to suppress the production of melatonin and subsequently interferes with our natural circadian rhythms. A lack of melatonin can contribute to a wealth of emotional and physical problems; from insomnia, anxiety, S.A.D and even cancer.

But this doesn’t mean that blue light is bad – only that we must regulate the times in which we are exposed to it. Blue light is especially beneficial in the winter when the days are shorter and greyer.

Correct exposure to blue light can significantly help with the following:

Boosts productivity at work
Aids winter depression/seasonal affective disorder
Resets our biological clock
Reduces tiredness/sluggishness during the day

Yellow

A flowing class where breath is linked with movement and used to wake up the body and increase energy. Yellow light is used in conjunction with twists and opening postures to aid digestion and alleviate mood swings. Our morning classes finish with a burst of blue light to set you up for the rest of the day whereas our evening yellow classes end with gentle orange light to promote a good night’s sleep.

This open class is suitable for all levels and options will be given to those who wish to challenge themselves.

About Yellow Light

Yellow light has many similar properties to red and orange in that it’s warm colour and promotes a healthy sleep cycle. It’s deep, rich tone stimulates an emotional response by simulating the effect of sunset/sunrise and in this case, it is the strongest colour psychologically.  Yellow is rousing, cheerful and optimistic and boosts self-esteem and confidence.

Yellow light has been shown to aid a variety of skin issues and is widely used within the beauty industry for it’s ability in successfully treating wrinkles and reducing the appearance of redness.

Pink

Using a combination of gentle stretching poses and breath work and meditation – our signature pink classes are all about letting go.

Pink: release

This class is all about letting go of any physical tension held by the body. Combined with deep stretching poses held for 4-5 minutes, in this yin style class you’ll be working with props to apply gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue to eliminate pain and restore motion. So if you’re a keen runner, sit at a desk all day or hold emotional tension in your body then a pink:release class is for you.

Pink: restore

The main focus of this class is to release any stressful or emotional energy using breathing techniques, visualisation and a selection of blocks, bolsters, blankets, and straps. You will be guided into no more than 6 very gentle stretching and opening poses to allow the mind and body to achieve a blissfully calm meditative state.

About Pink Light

Pink is a colour that effects us emotionally. Being a warm red tone, it is a colour associated with love, affection and nurturing. Specially selected essential oils and sound frequencies are used to invoke these feelings and guide us to a serene and relaxed state of mind.

With the use of props and the prolonged holding of a few simple poses, a pink classes helps to achieve a deep level of relaxation, triggering the parasympathetic nervous system. It also helps lose subcutaneous fat and reduces cortisol levels, especially in the abdomen. This activation helps to mitigate the effects of the usual fight-or- flight stress response that can be damaging to your physiology and well-being. Slower movements cultivate space for a deeper experience of the poses and the breath.

A pink class opens us up to new levels of self-exploration and contemplation by bringing awareness to the physical sensations, the thoughts or emotions that arise, or sounds in the environment creating a sanctuary for the mind and spirit, allowing you to take a deeper look at who you are.

Orange

Our orange classes are about learning the techniques you need to achieve a yoga practice which works for your body. Whatever your level, you’ll always leave an orange class having learnt something new.

Our orange classes have a changing theme each week and cover a broad range of basic poses which will help you to improve your practice and allow you to join other classes with confidence.

This class will help you master transitioning from jump-backs, twists, balances and inversions.
